INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED:

SILKEN TOFU

  • 1 lb silken or soft tofu
Cold Silken Tofu

FOR THE SILKEN TOFU

  • You can also quickly microwave the tofu for 45-60 seconds if you want it warm.
  • Some silken tofu break apart more easily compared to others so this can be a hit or miss depending on which brand you buy. I recommend using those in trays that are in a block submerged in water instead of those in tubes.
  • If using silken tofu in tubes, I recommend Korean sundubu or soft tofu. I find that these are firmer than other silken tofu in tubes I’ve tried.

SAUCE

  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter I used chunky peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp lime juice juice from 2 small limes
  • 2-3 tsp sugar adjust to desired sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or to taste
  • 1-2 tsp chili oil optional for extra heat
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp water to water down the sauce

TOPPINGS

  • Fried shallots
  • Chopped green onions or cilantro

NOODLES

  • 1 serving wheat noodles of choice
  • 1-2 tsp soy sauce optional to taste
  • 1-2 tsp chili oil optional for extra spice

SILKEN TOFU

  • Prepare the silken tofu: remove the silken tofu from the packaging and drain any excess water. You can leave it to sit on a plate while you prepare the sauce since the tofu will continue to release more water that you can discard later on before pouring the sauce.
  • I like the tofu really cold so I place this in the refrigerator while I prepare the sauce.

This is a recipe for cold silken tofu with hoisin peanut lime sauce. The sauce is made with hoisin sauce, peanut butter, lime juice, sugar, garlic, soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, and water. The tofu is served with the sauce and your choice of toppings. This dish can be enjoyed as a starter, snack, or main.

This recipe looks delicious and easy to make. I love the combination of flavors in the sauce, and I think the tofu would be a great way to add some protein to the dish. I’m definitely going to try making this recipe soon!

Can this be made ahead and refrigerated?

    1. Jeeca November 23, 2023 Reply

Hi Teresa! I don’t recommend it since the tofu will continue to release water as it sits, so it’ll dilute the sauce. You can however prepare the sauce in advance and just pour it over the tofu when ready to enjoy ◡̈

Your Hoisin Peanut Lime Cold Tofu recipe looks like an absolute flavor explosion! I can practically taste the rich umami of the hoisin sauce paired with the zingy freshness of lime. And using tofu as a canvas for these bold flavors? Genius! Plus, it’s perfect for those warmer days when you want something refreshing yet satisfying. Can’t wait to give this a try and add it to my summer recipe rotation!
